"Summer cottages", including the 70-room Italian palace The Breakers, were designed to outshine their neighbors for the few weeks of the Newport season. You can tour these Gilded Age masterpieces, walk along the ocean cliffs on the famed Cliff Walk, eat clam chowder until you explode, and go yarn shopping. We are SO there!

Join Planet Purl's Warm Hands, Warm Hearts charity knitting group as we launch our Warm Hearts Squared drive to benefit the Knit-a-Square and Warm Up America! charities -- where the squares you knit and crochet are combined with those from others to create blankets for people in need. Our goal is collect 1000 squares from Planet Purl readers by the end of 2010. So, dive into your stash and let's knit from the heart together.

For every square submitted to Planet Purl by our readers, Planet Purl will make an additional $1 cash donation to the charities, up to $1000 total. We will also be holding a drawing at the end of the charity drive for participants. Every square you send that meets program guidelines will give you an entry into our prize drawing for $100 gift certificate to your favorite yarn shop.
